A blend of technologies utilizing the best of factory made and custom hand made craftsmanship. We install our "front end" (leadpipe, slides, and valve caps) to the factory horn in addition to some significant rebuilding. The result is superb indeed and certainly rivals a number of custom made instruments. This horn is played by students, college horn majors, and pros alike.
"Wow! This horn is awesome. I guess I'm a better player with your horn."
- Gareth Mollison, London Philharmonic

These pictures illustrate our rebuilding techniques. This work is in addition to replacing the leadpipe and rebuilding the main and aux F tuning slides. We perform these modifications to ensure that the bore remains smooth and constant with no gaps or bumps. After disassembly, bore is checked and in most cases expanded to the proper diameter, then the tubes are fit in order to leave no gaps. The ferrules are then sized to properly fit the tubes and resoldered. These changes make a huge difference, in some cases, just as much as the leadpipe!
It is important to understand that there is nothing wrong with factory stock instruments and these inconsistencies are normal. We have found that there is significant improvement for those who want a better playing instrument. This work must be done by hand, one horn at a time and doesn't really work in a mass produced environment. For more information, please contact us.

What is a Conversion?
A series of significant improvements made to existing stock horns. The Patterson Conversion is a result of years of research and experimentation. We have developed our own leadpipe and first branch tapers and have discovered the proper way to assemble a horn.
After your horn undergoes a conversion, you will notice that the registers seem more even and the harmonic series is more centered and secure. Also, the timbre and intonation between the F and Bb sides of the horn is more consistent. The mid low register, (just below the staff) will be more responsive and centered as well.
